Lori Hickman Democrat
Background
Lori Hickman is an Idaho attorney, community advocate, and mother dedicated to public service, ethical leadership, and upholding the rule of law. A Borah High School alumna, she studied finance at Brigham Young University and earned her law degree from BYU's J. Reuben Clark Law School, graduating with honors in 1991. She has worked extensively in Idaho law, with experience spanning civil litigation, business law, child protection cases, and corporate counsel for Micron. She is running to restore professionalism, ethics, and legal integrity to the Idaho Attorney General's office.
Key Priorities
- Restore Trust and Integrity — the AG's office must operate as Idaho's law firm, not as a political operation. State agencies, the Land Board, and the people of Idaho depend on the AG's office to provide sound legal advice based on the rule of law, hire the best people based on ethics and skill, and put the best interests of Idahoans ahead of narrow and divisive ideologies.
- Uphold the Rule of Law — provide prompt, accurate, and authoritative legal opinions to legislators and state officials, highlight legal weaknesses that would invite costly court challenges, and consistently follow and defend the law as written, regardless of political pressure.
- Keep Federal Lands in Public Hands — strongly oppose efforts to sell or otherwise dispose of federal lands or to limit public access to them. Idaho should cooperate with the federal government in managing those lands, but they must remain open for use and enjoyment by future generations.
- Preserve Women's Access to Safe Healthcare — uphold the duty to defend the law as written, help the Idaho legislature craft the law, respect individual liberties, and defend the constitutional right of the people to create the law, including the need for women to access safe and proper health care.
- Oversee Stewardship of Idaho's School Endowment Lands — as a member of the Idaho State Land Board, ensure that the State's school endowment lands are managed responsibly in accordance with the Idaho Constitution's requirement to secure maximum long-term financial return for the benefit of Idaho's public schools, while keeping lands open to public use.
- Defend Idaho Waters — Idaho waters should stay under Idaho's control. Fight any federal efforts to meddle with storage water or transport Idaho origin waters to other states. Data centers and other large utility users should supply their own water and power instead of disrupting Idahoans' access to these vital resources.
- Combat Fraud Against the Government and Consumers — strengthen efforts to combat fraud and abuse, protect personal information, crack down on AI scams, and hold bad actors accountable.
- Defend Public Education — every Idaho student has a constitutional right to receive a free, uniform, and thorough public education. Defend that right from unwarranted attacks that seek to undermine public schools and interfere with the ability of students to learn and succeed.
- Safeguard Our Elections — Idaho has dutifully administered its own fair, honest, and orderly elections. Ensure that solemn responsibility remains free from federal overreach or interference.
- Support Our Justice System — advocate for adequate funding of the justice system, including law enforcement, courts, public defenders, and corrections, in accordance with the Constitution. Promote legislative fixes to problems impeding the work of that important system.
